Fault Prevention
Mechtronik Fault Prevention for the buggered, bothered and bewildered:
All machinery arriving on site these days are controlled by on board computers. The manufactures of this equipment have done their best to stop the end user from getting enough information without paying to diagnose problems. You would swear they have put a suicide protocol into some of these components. So instead of waiting for your dash board to light up and you can hear Scotty saying Och, Captain, She canna' take any more!” “If I give her any more, she'll blow!” Here are a few tips to prevent problems occurring in the first place.
1.Sensors – wiring - plugs - computers fail from heat stress.
Temperature management throughout the life of the machine is important.
This can be achieved by keeping your cooling system in top repair.
Monitor coolant condition – test at every service
Keep fan belts tight and change out regularly
Clean radiator fins and air intakes
Fix oil leaks and keep all compartments full
Back off!!! If your transmission or engine is running in the red during the heat of the afternoon pull up for a minute and cool your machine down
2. Sensors – wiring – plugs - computers fail from vibration stress
Most vibration is generated in the drive train – keep it tight.
Engine and transmission mounts are often overlooked during major service
Check your tyre pressures – keep the front tyres at a lower pressure
During the machine build an engineer spent days laying up your wiring harness Don’t let your fitters or hose doctors hack through all this mounting hardware to make a quick onsite repair
Keep your haul roads and operation as smooth as possible
3. Sensors – wiring – plugs – computers fail from condensate ingress
Dirt build up around plugs and in looms traps moisture, which evaporates during operation and causes condensation ingress into your electrical connections and components.
Wash your machine down regularly and thoroughly. Be careful not to apply high pressure directly onto the plug connections.
Check under the cab floor mats regularly for moisture and repair any leaks found.
